INVENT 2024 Finalist Profile: CyberSyd Ltd.
Founders name: Aaron Ball, Simon Ball and Conor McAleese
What is your background?
Having experienced bullying, we know how our young people feel trapped with no way out when going through such a common problem. We wanted to give them their voice back, so created CyberSyd. We wanted to give them a way to bring these issues to light in a confidential and comfortable way, whilst helping schools truly understand their bullying environment.
What problem are you solving?
Most bullying goes unreported for three reasons. Firstly, maybe the young person isn’t sure who they should go to. Next, even if they know who to approach, perhaps a teacher, they may not feel confident enough to talk about their experiences. Finally, there is the fear of being seen to report bullying by their peers, or the bullies themselves. Furthermore, there is no standardised case management or statistical reporting system in the UK, Ireland, or worldwide for bullying. This is despite there being numerous recommendations to this effect. All of the above points can be evidenced in academic research and governmental reports.
Who and where are your potential customers?
CyberSyd currently sells the service to individual schools through a subscription model but can be applicable in any youth organisation. CyberSyd has the potential to operate on an international scale, as it is an online platform and currently open to any English-speaking school.
What do you think is the potential for your business?
The potential for CyberSyd is immense. As the demand for safer, more supportive educational environments continues to grow worldwide, our platform is uniquely positioned to address a critical need in schools. By providing an accessible and effective tool for reporting and managing bullying, we have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the well-being of students globally.
Our platform's potential extends beyond just addressing bullying. As we expand and refine our offerings, CyberSyd can become an essential resource for educators, helping them create safer, more inclusive learning environments. With a focus on continuous innovation and market expansion, we believe CyberSyd has the potential to become the leading solution for promoting student safety and well-being in schools around the world.
Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?
In five years, we envision CyberSyd as a globally recognised leader in the fight against bullying in schools. Our goal is to be the go-to platform for students to safely report bullying incidents and for educational institutions to effectively monitor, investigate, and address these issues. We plan to expand our market presence in key regions such as the USA, Ireland, and beyond, while continuously enhancing our platform to meet the evolving needs of students and educators. These efforts will expand our market presence and strengthen our commitment to creating safer learning environments worldwide.
